The scene is always the same: I turn on an
urban music TV show, and I partake in a
feast of skin. Well-dressed, “pimped out”
brothers are bragging to me about how
they’ve got “hoes” in whatever city you can
imagine. The girls they are describing are
right in front of me, showing off their greatlooking
bodies without inhibition. I watch
video after video until these images become
a mental fixture.
Unfortunately, these pictures do not simply stay on the screen; they are repeated during recess, behind high schools, and at college parties all across North America. We have all seen it—sometimes in the mirror. As a man, it is a sad truth that video culture is hurting our women. It is hurtful to see women renamed “b----”, “hoe”, or worse...
