I've done it. I've bought DMX because of his "prayer" songs and argued with people that he is Christian. I did the same with Lauryn, Diddy, and Big Pun. I was glad when Biggie "got into the Jesus piece" and held up hopes for him. I was in amazement and hoped that KRS-One was going to be the one to truly deliver of the gospel to hip hop. I was glad for this "victory" and this new "apostle to hip hop".
I've done it. I've surrounded myself with good, Godly hip hop and let it say what I wanted it to say. Forget those songs that convicted me of my sins, I (wrongly, mind you) used Jurny's music to build up a defense for my attitude in church against those "pharisaic elders". I've played holy hip hop in the church office with the senior pastor around to prove to him that hip hop could be righteous and that I was righteous in the eyes of God, no matter how "hip hop" I was.
